  • Only 6-7 weeks left !

    The end of the school year is on the horizon. It’s time to strengthen your plan.

    Try not to let those marks drop now, even tho’ you’ve heard back from your post secondary institute . Yes, they may have already looked at the midterm mark and you’re looking good, but they may also look at the final marks and things could change.

    If you’re preparing to live on campus, be sure to fill out the paperwork for your desired residency.  Get on the waiting list, you can always cancel.  Don’t be left scrambling.

    If you’re considering the trades, which by the way, usually land you with a great paying job and less student loan money to pay back, remember, apprentices can receive up to $4,000 in grants to pay tuition, travel, tools, or other expenses.

    There are many career opportunities in the trades, everything from construction and roofing to cooking and hairstyling. Visit Skills Canada to learn more about careers in the trades.

    Summer employers start looking for the best student candidates now. I know it might seem early in the year but it’s never too early to start planning your summer job. A lot of the best opportunities for student employment can be found between January and April when employers are planning budgets for their summer business quarters and accepting applications. Summer jobs are a great way to gain experience in industries you’re considering going into after high school. You might think there aren’t summer opportunities in your chosen field, but that’s probably only because you might not know the best places to look. But if you don’t find your dream match, don’t be afraid to reach out directly to your favourite company, television station, news paper or where ever else you’d like to work.     A great thing about starting a new semester is that you get to start fresh . With new classes comes new opportunities to learn new things, meet new friends, and get good grades.

    For many of you , this is your last semester in high school. Enjoy  it ! For  those of you going on to post secondary be sure to go over your applications thoroughly  and get them in on time

    JobsPeopleDo.com is expanding again!

    We aspire to be that place for high school and pre post secondary students, a place to find out the information you need in order to prepare for and make career and post secondary choices ( in an easy-to-read, entertaining fashion).

    Our articles have been written by students and recent grads. There are 15 articles in total and they touch on everyday experiences in high school or first year of college or university. Articles are short and limited to 550 (ish) words. If you would like to write an article for us, or would like a topic discussed, let us know!

    Coming Soon! ….. A list of programs and what kinds of jobs you can get with that degree!

    In development… Our video data base is constantly expanding until completion. We have completed the first 3 categories under job videos. These videos are complete with schools offering correlating courses.  Remember, this will be the largest data base of its kind in Canada.

    JobsPeopleDo.com is pleased to announce their new alignment with Distribution Access. Distribution Access has been providing schools, libraries, businesses, community organizations and life-long learners with award-winning multi-platform productions on a wide variety of subjects.

    The Access Learning service, www.accesslearning.com has added a Careers section on their educational streaming site, in addition to their existing 40,000 video learning segments supporting all K-12 subjects.

    JobsPeopleDo.com is expanding their video section to include below each video, the schools offering correlating courses. This expansion will be the largest data base of its kind in Canada. We will be uploading this additional content for each category weekly, to completion.

    Deciding what to do with your future can be a daunting task. Check out the 540 career videos to see what jobs people do, then check the profile for approx. pay scale.

    Happy New Year! Woot! Woot!

    Doesn’t it seem like New Years when your going back to school? You’re full of hopes, promise, and new resolutions. You have  thoughts like: “I’m not going to be late this year, not even once” or “I’m going to focus, and get my work done” or “I’m going to be nice this year,  to everyone!”

    This is a fun and exciting time of year.

    For those of you starting high school this year – welcome! This is the beginning of your high school years -enjoy!  Get involved with your school because it’s lots of fun and you’ll meet great new friends. Take just 15  minutes at night to go over notes, and exams will be a breeze.

    For those in the middle years, you’re lucky too! You’re settled, you know the school, you should know what works and what doesn’t.  These are the years when marks start to matter regarding your post secondary choices. Be sure to look at all types of careers, investigate, and experience as much as you can. Find your passions, and look for careers in that area.

    Seniors, omg! This is your last year! You’ll remember this year forever. Be sure to find out what you need in terms of marks for getting accepted to your chosen post-secondary schools (find out early, and make a plan). Have fun, make memories, but remember, your choices this year will affect your future. Think first! Finally, you’re the senior, the grade 9ers will look young, and they’ll be looking up to you. Be a mentor!

    Good luck everyone! Be the best you can be, and most of all, have fun and be SMART.
