Typical pathway

A typical pathway to social work often begins in secondary school with courses in English, social studies, and helping-focused subjects if available. Many people then complete a university degree in social work, although related education may sometimes lead to entry-level roles depending on the employer and province. Experience through volunteering, community work, or placements can be important. After graduation, new social workers may begin supervised work and continue learning through practice, training, and professional development.
