HOW TO GET THERE
Typical pathway
People interested in truck driving often start by completing secondary school and then learning the skills needed to drive commercial vehicles safely. A driver may need a commercial driver’s licence and training through a driving school or employer-based program, depending on the type of truck and job. Some people begin with shorter local routes before moving into longer-distance work. Good judgment, responsibility, and a strong safety focus are usually important.

A DAY IN THE LIFE
What a day can include
A truck driver’s day may begin with a vehicle inspection, checking tires, lights, brakes, and cargo before leaving. The driver then follows a route to deliver goods or pick up freight, often keeping track of hours, stops, and traffic conditions. During the trip, the driver may communicate with dispatch, complete paperwork, and make sure the load stays secure. At the end of the day, they may inspect the truck again and report any issues.
