Carpenter

Carpenters work with wood and other materials to build, repair, and finish structures and parts of buildings. HOW TO GET THERE

Typical pathway

A secondary student interested in carpentry may start by taking math, drafting, construction, or shop courses if available. Many carpenters learn through a combination of classroom training and paid on-the-job experience through an apprenticeship or other training route. Along the way, they build skills in tool use, blueprint reading, measuring, and safe work practices. Some people begin as helpers or labourers and gradually take on more complex tasks as they gain experience.
