HOW TO GET THERE
Typical pathway
A secondary student interested in carpentry may start by taking math, drafting, construction, or shop courses if available. Many carpenters learn through a combination of classroom training and paid on-the-job experience through an apprenticeship or other training route. Along the way, they build skills in tool use, blueprint reading, measuring, and safe work practices. Some people begin as helpers or labourers and gradually take on more complex tasks as they gain experience.

A DAY IN THE LIFE
What a day can include
A carpenter’s day often includes reviewing plans, organizing materials, and preparing tools before starting a project. They may spend time measuring, cutting, framing, fitting, or finishing parts of a structure or repair. Work can shift between indoor and outdoor sites, and tasks may change as the project moves forward. Throughout the day, carpenters typically focus on accuracy, safety, and working with others to complete the job.
