HOW TO GET THERE
Typical pathway
People in this field often complete post-secondary education in counselling, psychology, social work, or a related area. They may also pursue graduate study or specialized training in counselling methods and client support. Practical experience, such as supervised placements, is often important for developing skills. A DAY IN THE LIFE
What a day can include
A registered clinical counsellor may start the day reviewing appointments, notes, and client goals. During the day, they often meet with clients one-on-one or in small groups, ask questions, and listen closely to concerns. They may help clients explore emotions, manage stress, and practice coping strategies. Between sessions, they may complete documentation, coordinate with other service providers, and prepare for upcoming meetings while maintaining confidentiality and professional boundaries.
