HOW TO GET THERE
Typical pathway
A typical pathway may start with high school courses in English, social studies, and religious or world studies, plus volunteer work in a faith community, charity, or community support program. Some people then complete postsecondary study in religious studies, theology, or a related field, while others learn through church, synagogue, mosque, temple, or other faith-community training and mentoring. Early experience often comes from helping with services, education programs, pastoral care, or community aid. Exact requirements can vary by employer, province, and faith tradition.
