HOW TO GET THERE
Typical pathway
A typical pathway for a Canadian secondary-school student is to build art skills through high school courses, personal practice, and a strong portfolio of drawings, paintings, sculptures, or other work. Many people then study fine arts or a related visual arts program at college or university, while others learn through workshops, community classes, mentorships, or self-directed practice. Early experience often comes from showing work in local exhibitions, helping with art projects, taking part in studio or community arts activities, or teaching beginner art classes if they have the skills. Requirements can vary by employer, province, and specialty.
