HOW TO GET THERE
Typical pathway
A typical path for a Canadian secondary-school student is to keep active in school sports, Physical Education and team activities while building discipline, communication and leadership skills. Many future athletes also join local clubs, community teams or school teams to gain coaching, training and competition experience. After secondary school, some continue training full time, while others balance sport with further education or work. Athletes usually train under a coach or trainer, attend regular practices and compete at local to international events. Training and early opportunities can vary by sport, province and level of competition.
