HOW TO GET THERE
Typical pathway
A common pathway is to finish secondary school and look for entry-level experience in food service, such as working in a cafeteria, restaurant, hospital kitchen, or other food service setting. Many employers value hands-on experience in preparing, portioning, and serving food, along with basic customer service and teamwork skills. Some people build experience in junior food service roles and then move into supervising staff, scheduling shifts, keeping records, and ordering supplies. Requirements can vary by employer, province, or workplace, and some supervisors may also get additional training on the job.
