HOW TO GET THERE
Typical pathway
A Canadian secondary-school student interested in baking often starts by taking English, Math, Family Studies, and other food-related courses. After school, a common route is to get entry-level experience in a bakery, grocery store, or other food service setting and learn by working with recipes, doughs, batters, and baking equipment. Some employers may prefer or provide on-the-job training, while others may look for baking or culinary training through a college or vocational program. With experience, bakers may take on more responsibility such as decorating, ordering supplies, planning production, or helping train new staff.
