HOW TO GET THERE
Typical pathway
A typical path is to finish secondary school and look for entry-level work at a gas station, service station, or similar business. Employers often value basic English and math, a customer-service attitude, and comfort with hands-on work. Some students gain experience through part-time jobs, summer work, or volunteer work in retail, cleaning, or other public-facing roles. On-the-job training is common, and duties can vary by employer or province. Over time, workers may learn more about refuelling vehicles, checking fluids and tire pressure, taking payments, and doing light maintenance or yard and station cleanup.
