HOW TO GET THERE
Typical pathway
A typical path is to finish high school and take courses in math, physics, mechanics, and communication. Some students then learn through a college program, a pre-employment course, or on-the-job training with an equipment repair shop, dealer, or service company. Entry often starts with helper or junior repair roles, where you learn to inspect equipment, find faults, replace or adjust parts, and test repairs. Requirements can vary by employer, province, or the type of equipment you work on, and some people build experience first through general shop or mechanical work.
