HOW TO GET THERE
Typical pathway
A common pathway is to finish secondary school and take courses in mechanics, physics, industrial arts, and first aid. Many students then look for entry-level work or employer training with oilfield service companies. Early experience may include driving service trucks, handling hoses and pumps, and learning safe work practices on well sites under supervision. Some workers start in related labour or helper roles and move into more skilled service-operator duties over time. Requirements can vary by employer, province, and the type of well-service work being done.
