HOW TO GET THERE
Typical pathway
A typical path starts with a high school diploma, especially courses in math, English, business, and construction or technology if available. Many people then take a college diploma or university degree in construction management, engineering technology, or a related field, although some enter through years of hands-on experience in the construction industry. Early work as a carpenter, estimator, site supervisor, or trades helper can build the knowledge needed to lead projects. Employers may value strong communication, scheduling, budgeting, and leadership skills, and requirements can vary by company, province, and project type.
