HOW TO GET THERE
Typical pathway
A typical pathway starts with a Canadian secondary-school diploma, with courses in English, math, computers, and business or office software helping build useful skills. Many people then take a college certificate or diploma in office administration, office assistant, or a related clerical program, though some employers may value equivalent experience instead. Early work often includes clerical jobs such as data entry, filing, records, reception, or office support. With experience, strong communication, and proven organization skills, a worker may move into supervising other clerks, scheduling work, solving day-to-day problems, and helping train new staff.
