August : The Last Month of Summer

    Hello Everyone!

We are now into August; the last month of summer before school. As you enjoy and relish your last summer activities and events, you should also be thinking about your return to school. A great way to get your mind geared up for the new school year, is to write out your goals. They can be academic, extracurricular, or financial.

In our Jobs People Do August issue, you will find many articles to help get your mind “re-occupied” with things like scholarships, trade career options and your mental health. Some other articles this month discuss trade job shadowing, starting your own business in high school, different ways we learn and dealing with gossip at school.

So, let your mind body and soul soak up the last days of summer with some great reads and useful information from Jobs People Do; we’ll see you again in September!

    Regards,

    Erin Lynne Bouman

Every Ending has a New Beginning…

    Hello, Gang!

My name is Erin Lynne Bouman and I am your new JPD Content Editor! I am very excited to start a new chapter with you and share as much great new content as humanly possible. Right now you are all probably wrapping up your school year with exams and final projects- summer is almost here!

It is a great time to start thinking ahead. What do you want your summer to look like and how do you prepare for it? These are the types of questions you should be asking yourself. This month, we have some great advice on volunteer options and how to chill out and make the best of your summer. We have tons of new Career Profiles to sink your teeth into, including some great career options in the trades’ section. Have you ever kicked yourself in the butt for not finding a summer job quick enough? Stressed to the max and need some advice on how to deal? Interested in learning about Sports scholarships? We have all those articles and more; we got your back.

Summer isn’t all sunshine and lollipops. It can be a time to reflect on your past year and what goals you want to set up for your next school year. Work hard, play hard, as they always say. You want to be able to walk into a new school year and shout, “I am ready!” So, don’t fall in the hole that is the summer boring blues so you can look back and go, “I wish I could have done that”; no regrets. Use June as your springboard and spring into summer ready and rocking…

  • Making the Most of February

    Making the Most of February

February is traditionally the month of Valentine’s Day – filled with chocolates, cards and candy. It’s also the month of Family Day (or whatever incarnation your province has). Take advantage of this day off to spend time with your family and friends, relaxing and celebrating before you start to buckle down and prepare for exams and final papers.

Indeed, no matter if you’re in junior high, high school or college, at some point in the next few months you will be studying for exams and trying to keep up with your homework. This month, we have study tips and tricks to help you through this challenging period. We’ve also found some great online resources to help you with studying English that will come in handy (especially if you’re behind on your readings).

Our Community Living page is in full swing, boasting information on the transition from high school to university and scholarships and bursaries that are just for students with learning disabilities. As always, we’ve rounded up even more scholarships for students on our Scholarship page. Don’t forget to take the time out to apply for a few of these – the extra money to pay for your education will REALLY come in handy!

If you’re on social media, join us on Facebook and Twitter.

    Have a happy February!
