    In the Summertime

You’ve made it! June has arrived and the last month of school is upon us. For some of you, this means you will be gearing up to kick back for a summer of rest and relaxation with your friends and family before preparing to head back to school in September.

For others, this is the month that you have been waiting for your entire life – you are graduating from high school. Congratulations! This is a huge accomplishment and a milestone in your life. This summer will be filled with new adventures as you enter this next phase of your life. Perhaps you will be moving away from home for the first time to attend college/university in a new city. Or maybe you have decided to take a year off from your studies to work and travel. Whatever you plan to do, this is a wonderful moment in your life to really learn about yourself and to try your hand at different jobs to see what path is the right one for you.

Some of you might also be getting your very first summer job. This can range from mowing lawns to working at a restaurant. As always, JobsPeopleDo.com has tips to help you navigate these new experiences. Even if you don’t love your first job, use the time that you are working this summer to help you figure out your future career path. You will learn a lot about yourself and your preferences if you are tuned in to your heart.

Finally, it’s not too late to apply for scholarships to help fund your foray into post-secondary education this fall. We’ve rounded up the latest and greatest in scholarships that you can use to get the free money that will make your life just a little easier come September.

JobsPeopleDo.com will be updated all summer long with articles and advice to help you navigate your summer months and make the most of your preparation for the fall. Have a wonderful June!

  • The Home Stretch

    The Home Stretch

You’ve almost completed another year of school. That is a huge accomplishment – one that you should be immensely proud of! Now that you’re in the home stretch, you need to keep your mind and body in shape to finish off strong. As always, JobsPeopleDo.com has a plethora of articles that help you with everything from your health (drinking water helps to cure headaches – who knew?) to studying tips to keep you powering through your final exams.

As the weather is finally taking a turn for the better, getting outside for a little fun in the sun will not only better your mood, but it will help you to concentrate over the next few weeks. With the stress of exams and, for some of you, graduation, it’s important to invest in some “me time”. By being outside and soaking up the vitamin D and getting some fresh air, you’re helping to keep your mind and body sharp. Of course, it goes without saying that you should slap on a little sunscreen before heading out for a long day outdoors (thanks, mom).

The school year is winding down, but JobsPeopleDo.com is going strong. In addition to our editorial pieces from our fabulous writers, we’ve rounded up the latest and greatest scholarships that you can apply for to help fund your university dreams.

Don’t forget to follow us on Twitter @JobsPeopleDo for advice and fun stuff you won’t find anywhere else.

    Have a great May!

  • April Showers Bring…

    April Showers Bring…

You’ve heard the old adage that “April showers bring May flowers”. While this winter has been seemingly endless, it probably feels like those flowers will never come. But one thing is certainly in bloom this month – studying, exams, college applications and scholarship searching.

April is one of the busiest months in the life of a student. With final exams coming up quickly, you’re probably wondering how you can fit everything in. Hanging out with friends and family, exercising and taking time to do things you love are important, too. Taking care of your mental and physical health will go a long way to ensuring that you are relaxed and ready to ace those exams. If you need help studying, we’ve got tons of tips on how to make the most of your book-time. Don’t forget to scope out the JobsPeopleDo.com archives – we’ve got plenty of editorial pieces that are sure to fit your situation and give you the advice you are looking for.

In case you haven’t already, you need to add getting your volunteer hours onto your (already full) plate. If you find a cause or charity that really fits with your interests, the forty required hours will fly by. There are more benefits to volunteering than just completing your mandated hours to graduate – as you’ll see in one of this month’s featured articles, volunteering looks great on a resume, too.

Take some time to click around our over 600 job videos. During your clicks you might just find the one career that speaks to your innate interests and skills.

    Have a great April!

  • Spring Has Sprung

    Spring Has Sprung

After a seemingly endless winter, filled with multiple storms (and even bouts with ice), March is a welcome sight on the calendar. It is, after all, the month that ushers in Spring – a season that Canadians look forward to with much anticipation each year.

It’s not just the melting of the snow that we have to look forward to, either. March signals exam season for many students, whether you’re in secondary school or college. It’s important to stay on your toes during this time, both mentally and physically. Staying as healthy as possible will keep your brain sharp and allow you to really concentrate on getting that studying in (so you won’t have to be faced with that dreaded all-nighter the day before your finals).

Maybe you’re getting prepped to graduate from high school this year. With it comes the question of where and when you’ll head off to post-secondary education. If you’ve already got your applications in, now is the perfect time to start researching scholarships to help fund your university dreams. As always, JobsPeopleDo.com has compiled a list of the latest scholarships to hit the scene and help you along the way. After all, free money is the best kind of money!

We also have some big changes in store that we can’t wait to share with you!

Until then, have a great March (and March Break!).

  • Love Is In the Air

    Love Is In the Air

February is here and that usually means one thing – love is in the air! Valentine’s Day is something many of us have been celebrating since we were young, handing out Valentine’s cards to our classmates for fun. Love in high school and junior high can be confusing and exhilarating, causing many of us to experience our first heartbreak. Remember that Valentine’s Day is just supposed to be fun – don’t take it too seriously. You don’t even have to celebrate it at all!

Besides being the month of love, February is also the month of the 2014 Olympics in Sochi, Russia. The Olympics encourage us all to come together and celebrate the beauty of sport and to cheer for our respective countries. With Russian politics and policies dominating many of the headlines surrounding these Olympics, it will be a very interesting to watch the games unfold. Will you be watching or will you boycott the Olympics to protest Russia’s laws? Let us know – we want to hear your opinions!

You’re now one month into your latest semester of school. If you need advice and tips on how to be a better note-taker, where you can go to get your required 40 hours of volunteering or simply how to de-stress, JobsPeopleDo.com has got you covered. Our latest articles and our extensive archives cover anything and everything you need to know to succeed in school and plan your future.

If things get too stressful this month, just remember – March Break is only a few short weeks away!

    Happy New Year from JobsPeopleDo.com!

2014 is officially upon us, and with it comes a new set of goals and responsibilities. If you’re graduating from high school this year, you’re probably already counting down the days until you’re finished. With the excitement of graduation bearing down on you, don’t forget to take some time to plan for your future, too. High school will be over, but many of you will also be entering college and university in the fall. That means you’ll want to get your scholarship and bursary applications in soon – it’s never too early (or too late) to get free money for your education.

Have you made any resolutions for the new year? Sometimes the changing of the calendar also brings with it a changing of your mindset – it feels like a fresh start. Take advantage of this feeling by setting some goals for yourself. It could be as simple as, “I want to spend one hour per night studying”. Making your resolutions into smaller, bite-sized goals will increase your chances of succeeding. Good luck!

This year is bound to be a big one for JobsPeopleDo.com. We have lots of fun and surprises in store for you, so keep checking back every month. We always want to hear from you, so let us know what you want to see on the site. Remember, JobsPeopleDo.com is YOUR website!

  • Falling Into School Routines

    Falling Into School Routines

Welcome to the October edition of JobsPeopleDo.com!

You may have noticed last month that we recently launched a new section that is geared towards students in elementary school. In this section, we will provide you with tips on how to prepare yourself for junior high and high school, fun jobs you can think about for your future and interesting facts and tidbits about life in general. We are excited about this new section of the site and we think you’ll love it as much as we do!

For French speaking students, we are entering our second month of having French articles available for you. All you have to do is select the “French” button on the top right of the homepage and all of our great editorial pieces will be converted into French! We’re in the process of converting our Job Profiles and Quizzes sections into French as well, so please bear with us during this transition period. We’ll have it up for you as soon as possible!

October is the month where you will have settled into your daily school routines. Don’t forget to break up your day by being active – go for a walk or a run with your friends before the snow starts to fall. It’s important to have fun, too, and that is where Halloween comes in. Here at JPD, Halloween is one of our favourite holidays. It is the one day per year that you can dress up as anything you want and have a great time with your friends. So make this Halloween a fantastic (and safe) one!

Enjoy your October – and don’t forget that Daylight Savings Time will be ending soon. That means one extra hour of sleep is coming your way shortly!
