  • 3 Years Later…

    3 Years Later…

It’s been three years. Now that some time has passed, we have a clearer idea of just how big of a cultural moment March 2020 was. And all that time, I managed to avoid getting struck with the virus — until now. As I write this, I’m sitting here with a fever and trying to find the words to finish this. Fortunately, we have an amazing team of writers to do that, so be sure to check out the latest articles in this issue.

This issue, we take a look at the climate crisis, trades jobs, and several new career profiles. Covid carries on and we have to keep that in mind, but we also have to balance that with moving on with the world the way it is now.

Stay tuned later this month when we publish more articles, as well as video interviews. We’ll be posting at least twice a month going forward to keep you up to date on all the latest careers and social issues.

As for me, I’m going to back to sleep.

    Regards,
    Anthony Teles, Vice-President

  • A Chance to Reflect

    A Chance to Reflect

Well, here we are. This is the last month of 2022, 2023 is coming at us fast, and we’re still doing our best to process how much has happened in the last few years. As things wind down in December during the holiday season, we get a chance to take a breather and reflect. Make sure to take that time for yourself. Think about not only the challenges you’ve faced, but also how much you’ve overcome, and how you have grown this past year.

While you’re resting, partying, and over-eating, check out some of the latest articles from our writers. Have a look at tips for going vegetarian, the pros and cons of having a sole-proprietorship, and new career profiles including educational assistants and network cabling specialists.

One Bad Apple Doesn’t Have to Ruin the Barrel

We’re well into autumn and the end is in sight for 2022. We’ve traded short-sleeves for sweaters and iced drinks for apple cider. The school year is well underway and the holiday work season is fast approaching. As you navigate all that comes with this time of year, remember that you don’t have to be perfect. We all make mistakes and we all have more to learn. When it comes to you and everything you do, one bad apple doesn’t have to ruin the barrel.

This month, we have tips for those struggling with negative thoughts about wasted time. As we deal with things being relatively back to normal, we have advice for making your way through the post-Covid world. You’re not alone! Take time to read about the personal experiences of our writers Elora Pharai and Rabia Khan.

Also be sure to check out our career profiles on developmental services workers, blacksmiths, atmospheric and space scientists, and choreographers. For fun things to do at home, check out YouTube channels and other social media profiles help you learn how to cook.

  • Welcome back!

    Welcome back!

I hope you all had a wonderful summer and a great start to the new school year. Changes are challenging in every form — whether it be summer to fall, virtual to in-person, or high school to post-secondary. But with these challenges come opportunities to grow, learn, and better ourselves. You’ve got this!

Not only is JPD back with more articles, but we’re also expanding our content this year. We’re adding video interviews conducted by our writers with professionals across Canada. You’ll get insights on how they got to where they are, what their days are like, and how technologies and the pandemic have changed their work. There’ll also be audio interviews in the form of podcasts that will go more in-depth. Stay tuned!

With the chill in the air comes the Halloween spirit. This month, learn about how that tradition has changed over the years and has been embraced by the LGBTQ+ community. If you’re having trouble getting into the festive spirit because the semester has gotten off to a bad start, we have advice on how to turn things around. Want to make some positive changes this school year? Check out some ways to set up good habits.

I want to give a big shoutout to our fantastic team of writers for this issue: Meghan Brown, Tiffany Chang, Susan Huebert, Sarah Leung, Linda Mendes, Elora Pharai, Maryam Sheikh, Julia Skoczypiec, and Bhargavi Venkataraman.
