A New Year for Change…Or Not?

    Happy New Year!

Each new year brings different changes. Of course things can change without ringing in the new year, but there is something about starting a new year that feels so fresh and reassuring. If whatever you’ve been doing has been working, you may not have to think about it too much. However, there are always things to improve upon. There are interpersonal goals, financial goals, academic goals and social goals to think about. One thing to always keep in mind when making any resolutions, is that everyone does what they need at their own pace. Don’t try to compete with others or you will find yourself clinging to something that might be unattainable. Make your own way!

To kick off the year, we have some articles about starting the new year progressively, what a “gig” economy is, resume dos and don’ts, mental health orientated degrees, and the real differences between understanding and memorizing, to name a few.

Be sure to check out our scholarship section so you can get your January applications in before it is too late!

    Peace and good luck!

  • In November We Remember

    In November We Remember

On November 11th, we celebrate and remember the veterans of war in Canada. Traditionally, we all wear a poppy on our shirts to signify that we are taking some time to remember the veterans. The poppy shows respect for those lost and also, those currently in war. Your school may give 5 minutes of silence or will conduct an assembly with choir songs and speeches. We have a lot to be thankful for in Canada, and having these soldiers protect us and serve our country is one thing to be very grateful for, especially during these uncertain times. In November’s issue of JPD, we have important articles on: careers that might be phased out by robotics and what to do, how to make exercise a habit, jobs that make a difference in the world, and how to use your highly sensitive nature to your advantage in your job or career. We also put together some more important Career Profiles like being a First Responder and Flight Attendant. We have over 3 articles that list scholarships for November for every discipline, plus trades. These scholarships can be year round with various deadlines, but also specific November deadlines- Apply NOW!

  • The Road to Independence…

    The Road to Independence…

Congratulations! You made it through another successful school year. The future looks bright and you have plenty to get excited about. You may be going off to University or College this Fall and that requires a lot of preparation. If you are not going to College or University, that is OK, too. Everyone takes a different path and yours may not include post-secondary. If you are receiving your high school diploma this June, that means you are on your way to bigger and brighter things, naturally. Maybe you need to take a summer course or two- that is alright, too. You just need to know that whatever road you choose, you’ll be OK if you have the drive to take care of yourself and become independent. Working a job, volunteering and saving some money can help you feel more independent than you ever have before….

To finish off the year, JPD has some helpful articles for you before you hit summer break: financial aid for students in Alberta and Saskatchewan ( and Ontario), turning your grades around before year end, campus tours, detoxing from Netflix and chill, the healing power of the outdoors, and how to break up with your phone ( for a while).

JPD will be back at the beginning of the school year on September 3rd, 2018. If you are not returning, we wish you good luck in all your academic and life endeavors! We hope JPD has given you some helpful tips and advice on how to navigate your career path.

Have a blast and stay safe!
